Or at least, the fact that this fucking bird won't leave me the hell alone is leading me to think as much.
Are they typically this dumb? It's been years since I played any of these games, I don't even know what the hell it is.

[He clicks the video option and it focuses on a skinny blonde teenager covered in freckles, wearing a pair of stupid triangular shades with his hair gelled into an impossible style that is currently being partially destroyed by his newfound Wingull. Dirk looks entirely less than pleased.]

[The view switches from text on a white screen to the ceiling fan spinning slowly above a tall lanky teenager. He reaches up and adjusts his overhead light and holds up a hand.] I meant video chat but face to face for real is cool too.

Blue-eyed Jake Clone is John Egbert resident best friend. Clone two is Rose Lalonde aka my sister.

I actually know where you are, want me to spill the deets or do you prefer surprises?

['Leeeeeaff' the plant like Eevee in his lap rolls to present him with her furry/plant belly and he automatically rubs it.]

[Dirk's jaw goes slack and his shoulder slump-- it's a wonder he doesn't drop the damn communicator.]

[A moment later he affords a breathless laugh, shaking his head and pulling off his shades to pinch the bridge of his nose with his eyes shut.]

Shit, dude. You're my fucking brother, aren't you. [He shakes his head, replacing the shades.] Spill, I'll get some exploring done before I'm abruptly bombarded with you in the flesh.

[He waits, letting Dirk get that out of his system before spreading his hands, the gear being on the floor at his feet.]

You're in New Bark Town. I can wing it and get to you in about a day from here. ...okay slightly over a day but the point stands.

[He whips his out of his wallet, waving it for a moment.]

There should be a card in the pack you got will say breeder or trainer. Breeders can us hms like they're going out of style without needing to lay the smackdown on Gym leaders. Trainers? We got to work for the money.

[He's glad for the time it'll take Dave to get to him. He's-- terrified doesn't even begin to cover it. He's looking right at Dave, as it stands, can see that he's his age and obviously not the same continuity as the guardian he never met, but-- Fuck. Meeting someone you've ached to meet your whole life, even if they're technically an alternate universe version of that someone... Even Dirk Strider isn't immediately prepared for these shenanigans.]

[He mindlessly seeks the pack, and the card enclosed, holding up one that reads "Trainer" without a word.]

if you want one. Bright side of this world is if you want to snatch up some cash there's a zillion ways to do it so long as you put in the time you promised you're golden.

[He tucks his card back into his wallet and gets up, his Leafeon hopping off of his lap. From the new view point there's a dragonite stretched out on his bed that shuffles to her feet as he starts tugging on his traveling boots.]

...speaking of cash, this weather wrecking havoc with you? You came rolling in right before the snow will. [His brows come down in a pretty open expression of concern.]

Might be a good way to keep busy. I'll do some research before I make a decision, I guess.

[Dirk squints at the Leafeon, tilting his head just slightly. He's not familiar with it, though the Dragonite he knows. He doesn't state either of these things, just making assessments. Rose did say something to the effect of him being something like 400 Pokémon behind.]

[Funnily enough, it's not until Dave mentions the weather that he stops to think about it and realizes that it is balls fucking cold. He shrugs one shoulder.] It's pretty fuckin' freezing, but I'll probably survive.

[He laughs at that. Same old, same old. He's pulling on his traveling coat and tucking the dark material close. Flying can be cold as fuck in the chillier months.]

K. There should be some cash in your pack too. At least enough to gear yourself up. Once I get there it will be a sauna of fire. I'm not kidding, I have a lot of fire pokemon. [As if to make his point, both Charizards wander back in the background until Dave whistles and makes a, 'let's go' gesture.

He returns them to their pokeballs and clips them to his belt.]

Speaking of that, since the original 151, there's been new types found. Dark, Steel, Ice. More eeeveeevolutions to gather.

Oh hey, Charizards. I know what those are. I feel so fucking retro not knowing what your leaf-cat thing is. Or about your creepy sister's owls. Like I am so retro it's not even ironic, Dave.

Sounds great. I could stand some fire in my life. Right now all I've got is Seabird McDumb, who doesn't seem in the mood to offer much but a bad hair day. I'll look into getting some shit while you're in transit.

[He thinks for a moment on Dave's informative statement about types and eeveelutions.]

...is that what leaf-cat is? I guess it kinda looks Eeveeish.

You nailed it, this is a Leafeon. There's a Dark, ice, grass, and psychic types of eevee now.

[Dave snags his garish looking scarf, a monstrosity of green, purple, blue, and red. It gets wrapped around his neck.]

You'll get used to all these new types. I was just as clueless when I rolled in with my flaming pony.

Speaking of, last you that rolled through left a clippity clopper named Diva by Blood an orphan. I've been keeping an eye on him but if you want him I'm pretty sure he'd be glad to be back with you.

...Neat. I'd kind of like a Jolteon one day. I mean, we have similar hair styles. It's a match made in heaven.

[Dirk can't quite contain the snort of laughter at his scarf, though he does hide it behind a hand in an attempt to be polite.]

Jolteon is easy to get, just beware. If you talk to Rose about Eevee you will be there for the rest of the year and when you emerge you'll know everything there is to know about Eeevees. Everything.

[His mouth forms a very tight line against his jaw, a clear expression of trying to withhold an expression.]

[He slides easily back into a sort-of poker face when Dave moves on to talk about Rose and Eevee.]

Suppose I wouldn't mind knowing about them. She's a breeder, right? Does she specialize in Eeveelutions? ...Eeveevolutions? Fuck, how do you even say that. The evolutions of Eeevee.

[He laughs while he pulls on gloves and double checks his travel boots. Last thing he wants is a boot coming off way high in the sky. It would be his luck it would cold cock someone in law enforcement.]

Yeah sure, let's go with that. Rose is definitely a breeder, and takes all these notes on what she sees as they evolve. It's everything she ever wanted. She can study subjects and get inside their heads without any protests.

[Or maybe she likes the protests. Seeing as she gives Dave so much shit.]

If you want all there is to know on dragon types, I'm who you go so hey tell me about dragons.

Getting Jake to not talk is about as impossible as getting this fucking bird to not roost in my hair. So I'm sure it'd be a great prank, except unless we taught John how to talk like an Australian Village Idiot, I'm not sure it'd fly.
