[The feed is dark at first, and there is more sound than anything else. Specifically, a metallic shhhing!! sound, over and over and over again, dull thuds as whatever is making the metallic sound connects with something, and then a grunt as its user extracts it to start the process all over again.]

[A moment later, Dirk's Riolu, Roxy, swims into the feed and makes a concerned sound at it, and the video is shifted to show the source of the sound.]

[It's Dirk, and the repetitive sound is him continually rushing at and slashing up trees in a clearing of a forest area somewhere outside of Violet City. Occasionally he'll embed the weapon-- a crudely-made sword, wrapped by hand in haste from one of his Skarmory's feathers --into the trunk of a tree and have to yank it back out.]

[He has no idea the feed is even on, nor does he seem to realize that his hands are bleeding from the poorly-wrapped weapon.]

What's the general average of Pokémon caught versus time spent here, guys? I feel like I'm way fuckin' behind since I haven't got many. I guess maybe I'm just picky.

[He switches to Video, hoisting his Riolu into the field of vision. He-- smiles, moreso than he grins, which is probably an odd sight to most.] This is Roxy. And, uh-- Sawtooth, stop chopping up tree branches y'fuckin' nerd, get over here. [The gear moves around in a dizzying motion as Dirk sets Roxy down and carries the gear to a nearby tree, in which his Skarmory is perched and, as mentioned, chopping away at tree branches with his wings. Dirk sighs.] Smile for the camera, dummy.

[The feed turns on first to show Dirk's Wingull, perched neatly atop his hair as per usual, looking pleased as punch. Dirk then tilts it down to show his own face, wearing a crooked grin as he brings it down from where he'd obviously been holding it up to show the Pokémon off on his gear.]

So as a generalized guesstimation, how long does it take most people to name their Pokémon? Curiosity, since it took me forever to name this little asshole.

His name's Squarewave, by the way.

Hey, Dave, when do you figure we ought to get the fuck out of here and stop mooching off your best friend and his sister?

[For castmates in Casa de Eglonde in Ecruteak, Dirk is perched on the arm of the couch in the living room with his gear and his Wingull, doing nothing in particular.]

[To anyone so inclined to come looking for him, Dirk's been out of the house most of the day just wandering, climbing shit, hanging out in trees, exploring. He's had Diva with him most of the day as well, and is currently sitting out on the lawn of Casa de Eglonde with him, leaning against the Ponyta's side because he's either an idiot or entirely dead set on getting frostbite, since he left his louder-than-a-traffic-cone jacket inside. His Wingull, as per usual, is perched in his hair, still wearing his silly little scarf. He stays there for a long handful of minutes before he pulls out his gear.]

So we're legit in a Pokémon world of some kind here, aren't we.
Or at least, the fact that this fucking bird won't leave me the hell alone is leading me to think as much.
Are they typically this dumb? It's been years since I played any of these games, I don't even know what the hell it is.

Whatever.
Uh.

[He clicks the video option and it focuses on a skinny blonde teenager covered in freckles, wearing a pair of stupid triangular shades with his hair gelled into an impossible style that is currently being partially destroyed by his newfound Wingull. Dirk looks entirely less than pleased.]
